How to Choose a Practical Fireplace for Your Home

Who doesn’t love the idea of a brand new limestone fireplace in their home? The sizzle and crackle of a freshly lit fireplace is irresistible, especially during the colder months. The problem is, not all fireplace packages are practical for all homes.

If you’re serious about purchasing a fireplace for your home, you need to know what will work with your space. For example, a corner electric fireplace is only acceptable in uniquely shaped living rooms or bedrooms.

Today, we’re taking a look at how you can choose fireplace packages that are practical for your home environment so you can get the most out of your investment.

Determine the space and shape of your Room

The first thing you should do is take measurements of your interior space. Those measurements can save you time and money and prevent you from buying a fireplace that doesn’t suit your space.

Measure the width and the length of your room as well as the space between windows and flooring. If you’re installing a new fireplace, these measurements are priceless.

Figure out the PURPOSE of Your Fireplace

What function will your fireplace serve? How will your family use it? During the holidays only, or will you be using it daily?

Alternatively, if you intend to use your fireplace to heat your home, have you taken into consideration the size of your space and how much energy is needed to warm it?

Knowing the purpose behind your purchase gives you better direction for what you need. Be sure to tell any sales associates how you intend to use your fireplace.

Does it Distract or Complement?

Think about your interior style. How would you describe it? Contemporary? Modern? Vintage?

Your fireplace should match your current style, unless you intend on spending thousands to renovate your interiors simply to fit, say, a new corner electric fireplace.

For example, it’s definitely not practical to buy a limestone fireplace when you have a small, two-bedroom cottage. Consider your style and seek a unit that complements that look.

Making a Decision

Besides your style, the size of your room, and the purpose your new fireplace will serve, also consider the price. Avoid choosing a fireplace based on price alone. Consider researching the brands you’re interested in before you head to the fireplace superstore. Once you arrive, we’ll be happy to help you make the final decision.
